advertising + entertainment sub cult

Just learned that this guy didn't utter the famous line
"THERE'S A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE."

It was actually said by someone he knew but was attributed to him. Anyway, he went on his business making suckers out of everyday people.

Well the man is long gone but the sad thing is, there are still suckers to this very day, including me. Yeah, I'm a sucker for advertising even if I work in media.

pinoy slang / lingo sub cult

What is "USAPAN LASING?"

The act of making plans or talking about something when drunk and forgetting all about when you're sober the following day.

ex: Guy: Di ba sinagot mo na ako kagabi?
Girl: Usapang lasheng lang yon!

Before I became a fan of the NBA, of Michael Jordan, Julius Erving, the UAAP, the Ateneo Blue Eagles, I was a fan of this legendary rivalry...

Crispa vs Toyota in the glory days of the PBA was the "catalust" for my love of basketball.

At dahil baduy ako, I was a Crispa-natic.

boob tube sub cult

My recent favorite TV trip...

My favorite episodes are white people trafficking drugs, thinking they could get away with it.

NOT!!!

[future episode I hope: Some Philippine Congressman/TV channel owner/Celeb bf/Son of a politican who got caught with grams of cocaine in HK]

unsubcultured bucket list item #6

Watched live while my favorite basketball team, the Ateneo Blue Eagles, lost shamelessly to their opponents. CHECK.

pc gaming sub cult

PC games I used to play in the eighties...

[1] WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SAN DIEGO?

You're a detective, tracking clues around the world for someone named Carmen San Diego. It was like the Amazing Race... only simpler.

[2] KARATEKA

Before Tekken and Streetfighter, there was this game. It had many levels where you had to fight different henchmen... until you fight the leader. When you beat hi, you get to save the Princess. So I guess your prize is you get some nookie.

[3] TAIPAN

My favorite. And it's really simple. You're the captain of a trading ship. You travel from port to port buying low and selling high. Of course the item you trade get really rich quickly is OPIUM. But when you deal in opium, the risks are higher as more men will be after your booty. Yeah, it was fun to be a young drug dealer. And in this game, I was able to reach the highest level, that of a Ma Tsu.

robot sub cult

When I was a kid, I went crazy for Japanese animated shit every weeknight. They weren't called anime then. They were just cartoons to me. And because they were Japanese, they had awesome weapons and cheesy storylines. But what the hell. They blew my mind. I even drew robots during class naming one of my "creations" MEKAVOLTEZINGER A. Anyway, here are my fave my boob tube bots.

Monday - MEKANDA

Tuesday - DAIMOS

Wednesday - MAZINGER Z

Thursday -GRENDIZER

Friday - VOLTES V

This "bot" was my favorite. Five parts volting into one to form Voltes V. Today, some people still say "let's volt in" as an alternative to mag-meeting or mag-brainstorming tayo. He had lots of great weapons I just didn't understand why it was always the laser sword that killed the enemy.

Like I said, these bots had killa weapons. But none of them compared to the ultimate weapon that can only come from the creative/lecherous minds of Japanese animators. This robot came out on Wednesdays, alongside Mazinger Z.

Her name: APHRODITE A. And here's how she bombed the competition...

unsubcultured presents the world's shortest fairy tales

[1] Once upon a time, there was a man who won 1 billion dollars in the lottery. And he lived happily ever after.

[2] There once lived a man who's backyard was hectares and hectares of marijuana plants. And he lived happily ever after.

[3] Once there was a guy who had a harem full of all the sexiest and most beautiful celebrities in the world. And he lived happily ever after.

This guy was lucky...

When he created the universe, there were no stupid clients to comment / make revisions on his work.

Something like... "Puwede bang mas deep blue pa yung kulay ng sky?"... "Baka mas maganda kung mas mabagal ang revolution ng Earth sa Sun."... "Okay talaga ang hitsura ng mga Leopard pero ok lang ba kung dalawa nalang ang ulo niya? Eto pa, puwede bang spots nalang ang Zebra imbes na stripes?"

parkour sub cult

In France, the sport is called PARKOUR...

[FROM WIKIPEDIA: Parkour , or l'art du déplacement Which translates into "The Art of Movement" [1]English: the art of movement) is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one's path by adapting one's movements to the environment.[2] It is a non-competitive, physical discipline of French origin in which participants run along a route, attempting to negotiate obstacles in the most efficient way possible. Skills such as jumping and climbing, or the more specific parkour moves are employed. The object of parkour is to get from one place to another using only the human body and the objects in the environment. The obstacles can be anything in one's environment, but parkour is often seen practiced in urban areas because of the many suitable public structures available such as buildings and rails.]

In the Philippines, it's called AKYAT-BAHAY

pinoy slang sub cult

"TEXT TEXT"

[got this from a friend's ym status message]
a. Appointment is not important enough to merit an exact time and place. b. "Let's play it by ear. Maybe I'll feel lazy and I won't be in the mood to see you." c. The improvisational nature of the Filipino temperament.

In other words, the most used SMS of people with gimmick-commitment issues.

Examples:

girl: you wanna watch eclipse later?
boy: uh... uhh... sure... text text later.

boy: tara inuman tayo. last time tayo nag inuman 3 years ago pa.
boy 2: ah sige. tignan natin... text text.

girl: na-promote ka daw. manlibre ka naman.
boy: text text
