folk + protest music sub cult

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30, 2010. I thoroughly enjoyed the noon concert of Noel Cabangon today. It was even on all the local channels... he had all star front acts like Ogie Alcasid, Gary V, Regine Velasquez, Apo, The Madrigal Singers... Charice even opened with the national anthem... he played to a packed house, many of them in yellow... plus his special guests were the who's who of Philippine politics and showbiz, including some guy named Baby James. Is this why it's a holiday today? Whatever it is, GREAT CONCERT MR. CABANGON... YOU ROCK [or you folk]!!!

In honor of the first death anniv of the King of Pop, I'm rehashing my Facebook status message on the day he died...

MICHAELJ: Soul brother? But you're not black, you're brown.

FRANCISM: Hey, you ain't black too... you're white.

this unsubcultured poser thinks this could be the best world cup ever

Think about it...

The rising east... South Korea and the land of the rising sons of football reaching the round of 16...

Giant upsets... Spain losing to the Swiss... Germany losing a game... France losing to Mexico and Bafana Bafana [eventually, getting booted out].... and the biggest one - upstart Slovakia blast the defending champions Italy in one hell of a match [I should have watched that game in bar instead of "resting" at home damn it!]

Dramatic games... Portugal nuking North Korea, 7-0... Donovan's last gasp goal that catapulted USA [whaaat, they have a football team? what next, cricket?] to the next round... an Argentine player's hat trick... etc...

BUT... the good always comes with the bad. Two words. REFEREES. VUVUZELA.

Yeah, nothing's perfect, right?!

folk music sub cult

Why folk singers are cooler than rock stars...

[1] They just sit in one corner

[2] They never try to wreck their guitar

[3] They never set their guitar on fire

[4] They drink their beer, not guzzle it like there's no tomorrow

[5] They have friends, not screaming groupies

[6] They sing, not shout

[7] When they sing "baby..." it's about love. When rockstars sing "baby..." it's about sex

[8] They don't wear make-up and no one probably does their hair

[9] They wear clothes like the way regular people do. None of that leather biker shit

[10] They don't stick their tongue out

[11] They're steady, don't act crazy

[12] They usually go organic, not chemical

I could be wrong about all these, but I have an excuse. I'm unsubcultured.

Opening line from the greatest TV show ever...

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call...

cheesy pop ballads sub cult

Heard this on the radio this morning: Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock, of AIR SUPPLY met on May 12, 1975, the first day of rehearsals for “Jesus Christ Superstar” in Sydney, Australia; they became instant friends with their common love for The Beatles and, of course, singing. Got the rest of the story from http://www.airsupplymusic.com/bio.shtml

I guess we can blame JC for this unholy union of cheesy balladeers.

The art of being a poser or "posing" during the World Cup

Simple lang...

[1] Just have basic knowledge about the game - the rules, the players, the teams. Google before every match.

[2] When someone yells "off-side," don't ask what that means. Just say "aah..."

[3] When someone scores, yell like everybody else does.

[4] Shout "good save" when the goalkeeper prevents the ball from entering the net.

[5] When a player goes down during a tackle, you can behave two ways...
a. You shout that it was muthafuckin dirty play
b. You shout that the fallen player was over-acting. Usually this happens with a "star player"

[6] Safest rule of all: just shut up, drink your beer, eat your pulutan, and watch the hot fan gurls. Those are the reasons you're watching the game anyway.

old pinoy words sub cult

Ano ang "KWAN?"

Simple lang. Ang "KWAN" ay isang old school word na ginagamit ng mga Noypi kapag di nila maalala yung pangalan ng isang tao o di ma-i-describe ang bagay na tinutukoy nila.

For example:

"Naiinis talaga ako kay KWAN."

"Inday, nalinisan mo na ba yung KWAN?"

"Sino ba ang naniniwala sa KWAN na yan."

"Ilan KWAN ba ang nainom natin kagabi?"

Gets? Ang pinaka-matindi dito ay, naiintindihan ng kausap mo ang bagay o taong tinutukoy mo.

Ayus, ngayon kailangan ko na mag-logout kasi gagawin ko pa yung KWAN ko.
