an unsubcultured sports fan's notes about "winning"

Everyone loves a winner. That's an established fact. In sports, the more wins, the more fans. 2 perfect examples are the Azkals and the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

AZKALS
The general Pinoy pop. didn't care about football. Didn't even know we had a team comprised of half-euros... that is until they started winning in the Suzuki Cup. Now, coupled with their poster boy looks, they have a screaming horde of fans.

ATENEO BLUE EAGLES
There was a time in the past Ateneans lovingly call "The Dark Ages." That was mostly the 90s until early 2k when the Blue Eagles sucked. Naturally, only the die-hards [this term is also relative] watched games live or on TV during that time. But ever since 2002, when the team had been winning again, more and more blue bloods have been riding the blue bandwagon.

Don't get me wrong, rooting for winners and jumping on the bandwagon is ok. In fact, it's great that the Azkals have been taking this supposedly basketball country by storm. And it's awesome that now, Pinoys are getting bit by bit futbol subcultured.

What I'm really trying to say is that being there even when your team was down, and then being there in victory makes the winning experience even sweeter.
