what's the connection between U2, the NBA and Martin Luther King?

Just this week was Martin Luther King Day. I only knew about it because I was watching the NBA.

And then I remembered that the song PRIDE [In the name of love] by U2 was actually about MLK [some people thought it was about Jesus].
