uaap + hoops sub cult

IF THIS ISN'T SOME SORT OF BASKETBALL record, then I don't know what is...

Sunday. Aug 6. Ateneo vs FEU

THE FACTS:
  • Score: Ateneo leads 51-42 with more than 6 minutes left in the game
  • Ateneo PG Emman Monfort was dribbling the ball down court when he was fouled by Terrence Romeo
  • Romeo gets a technical for "pointing an accusing finger at the ref"
  • Monfort makes both free throws
  • FEU head coach Bert Flores gets pissed with the call... hence another effin T
  • Monfort makes one more free throw. Score to 54-42
  • Ball possession still goes to Ateneo... and Kirk Long hits a three pt. shot. 57-42
  • At the exact moment, FEU's Escoto was caught with unsportsmanlike foul on Greg Slaughter.
  • FEU gets another effin T and Slaughter makes both free throws. 59-42
  • Of course Ateneo gets ball possession once more... and Long hits another killa 3 [get this: from the same sweet spot] 62-42
THE "RECORD" RESULT
  • 11 points in 19 seconds
  • 11 points in what seemed like one possession
Only in the Pines. Only in the UAAP. Only by the Arrreneow Blue Eagles! [of course all the non-Blue Eagles fans now think that all the games are rigged in favor of Ateneo]

slam magazine has a pinoy edition!

I used to buy this magazine before because the articles were written in baller, and not sportswriter language. In other words, it had street/hiphop cred. And then I stopped buying the shit because it became so expensive... like 500++ bucks for a magazine? Noooo way!

But then as I was surfing other blogs, I learned that SLAM magazine now has a Philippine edition... same foreign articles + a bonus of articles about Pinoy ballers. Cool diba! I hope it's affordable.

The Spurs were the first to go... followed by the Lakers... and now Boston is the latest victim of youth. WOOOHOOO, it's [relatively] new school time in the NBA playoffs.

FRESH IS IN. OLD IS OUT.

With the Lakers down 2-0 in their series against Dallas, there could be a new NBA champion this June. The game announcer said that the NBA now has a "changing of the guard" feel around the league. That is so spot on. Even Boston is down 0-2 against Miami. And just last week, the old San Antonio Spurs got booted out by the young Memphis Grizzlies.

And so it has come to pass... the vaunted [on paper] Miami Heat with 3 [supposedly] superstars has lost 5 straight games, some of them at home, in front of their [rabid?] fans.

Those overpaid, overhyped losers cried when they lost their 4th straight game... NOW WHAT?I mean, how can they top that?

nba hoops + mythology sub cult

This is Isiah Thomas. One great point guard... until Michael Jordan and the Bulls powered past them in the 90s. He retired eventually and became a coach, a GM and the head honcho of the CBA [the predecessor of the NBA d-league].

I call Isiah the anti-Midas touch guy. You all know about the mythological king who turned everything he touched into gold right?

Anyway, Mr. Thomas is the "ANTI-MIDAS" because everything he touched turned to the shittiest shit. He coached Indiana with big name players. They sucked. He lorded it over the CBA? Where is the league now? Missing and never to be found. He got a job as GM of the Knicks and we all know that was a total fuck up.

Maybe he should just act as a GM with the Knicks on the video game, NBA 2k11. BUT HE MIGHT FUCK UP THAT THING TOO.

One more reason my MJ is greater than KB. One is aptly called "HIS AIRNESS." The other calls himself "THE BLACK MAMBA." WTF is a blackmamba?

Congratulations to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

They now own the longest losing streak in NBA history. Well, at least they are in the record books... as well as the unforgiving pages of history.

The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching. IMHO, the Houston Rockets should trade oft-injured player YAO MING.

FOR THIS...

I think it will be a fair deal for all parties involved.

hoops sub cult

After playing pick-up hoops back in the day, my friends and I used to talk about this topic a lot - who among NBA ballers would pass for a Pinoy just by the sound of the name? So here's my updated version with today's current NBA rosters...
  • Brook & Robin Lopez [could be designer Rusty Lopez's long lost cousins]

  • DJ Augustine[He just added the U after A and added E at the end, you know]
  • Carlos Arroyo [He's probably related to the ex-first gentleman]
  • Nazr Mohammed [Almost every Muslim in the Pines, especially in Mindanao is named that way]
  • Ming Yao [You guessed it... may have roots in Binondo]
  • David Lee & Courtney Lee [May be long lost relatives of Scriptwriter Ricky Lee]
  • Charlie Villanueva [Pinoy yan- puma-pluck ng kilay ampotah eh]
  • Carlos Delfino
  • Rudy Fernandez [Can we call him DABOY?]

  • Gilbert Arenas
  • Kevin, Kenyon and Cartier Martin [long lost relatives of Carmi]
  • Nick & Sam Young [probably related to Spin-a-win girl Jeanne Young]
  • Jose Calderon
  • Ryan Gomes [is actually a Gomez - just changed Z to S]
  • OJ Mayo
  • Greivis Vasquez [who?]
  • Francisco Garcia
  • Brandon Roy [probably a distant cousin of singer Karl Roy]
and last but not the least, the most pinoy of em all, nickname na nickname palang...
  • NENE

So let's get all of em for the national team!

Now it's time to start my list for football. And boy do I have lots of names, like for example, Christiano Ronaldo.

Forget Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat. IMHO, these guys are the most fun to watch players/teams in the NBA today...

[1] Derrick Rose and da Bulls
Love his twisting drives to the baskets and his clutch shots

[2] Monta, Steph, Dorrell Wright and the Warriors
Just like Run-Tmc, only younger

[3] Blake Griffin and the Clips
Is he white? black? Or in between? Whatever, he's the new Human Highlight Film

[4] Kevin Durant and the Thunda
Old school style shooting is back

nba hoops + post apocalyptic shit sub cult

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the lowest of the low. They just lost by 55 points to the Lakers. And they have the worst record in the NBA.

I guess they will all blame Lebron James for this until he dies... or until Cleveland sinks into Lake Erie in a future apocalyptic disaster.

Whichever comes first.
