unsubcultured solo trip to taal, batangas part 1

May 6, Sunday. Did not drink Saturday night [if I went out drinking on a Sat night, my halfday was done] so I woke up early Sunday. I was bored as hell. So on a whim... on impulse... I googled Taal, Batangas. Heard the town was old school.

After breakfast at Kenny Rogers and watching that awesome OKC-Dallas game, I split town. Alone. There is no other way.

Besides, if I don't do this, I may never see Taal, Bats in this lifetime. And I really wanted to bring my folding bike to a different place other than UP and the Manila Bay area.

Anyway, here goes my solo trip...

Brumekfast muna sa Kenny sa QC ave.
Some castle I saw along the way. I bet the owner is filthy rich.

No other word to describe this but BADUY.

The Taal town church. Of course, I didn't get the name. How unsubcultured of me.

So this is where they keep the peace doves.

No, I did not have a religious epiphany...

Just some old stuff

conyo + arrrenean + pinoy indie sub cult

Like... this is like totally awesome, pware!

http://soundcloud.com/perkywasted/perkywasted-conyo-from-ateneo

the unsubcultured mobiles through the years...

1980s-mid 90s. TOYOTA COROLLA DX. I had one like the car above. Got it as a hand me down from my brother during the last few weeks after graduating from college. Had one of my most embarassing moments in it. Driving around school, I saw my "crush" and waved at her. I lost control and my car went over the sidewalk. Blecch. Also had a number of minor accidents in it. It was sort of "my practice car." Oh, its name is JAKE. Because at that time uso ang mga conyo names and Jake was a conyo name.
Mid 90s-2007. Daewoo Racer ETI. I had one like the car above.  Her name is AJ because at the time I got her, I had a big crush on actress Anjanette "AJ" Abayari who is now probably leading a quiet life back in the States. This was my make out car, my gimmick car, the car who also gave me the most headaches in terms of mechanical trouble. It has been involved in a lot of accidents too and sometimes I think I'm lucky to be alive. Just recently sold it for 20k hahahaha.

2007-2012. Honda City IDSI 1.3 Automatic. Christened Apples because one day, my friends and I were drinking and they saw two Apple stickers on its windshield. This car was a reward for all the work stress and a minor promotion I had at work. Needless to say, work got more stressful when I got the car. But finally, I had a reliable car which never broke down and which took me and my friends to numerous roadtrips. And did I mention that great feature --- when driver is drunk, it goes on autopilot.
Present. Honda City. Like all the other cars, this serves as my external cabinet. It's more than two months old but I've been to Pampanga, Calatagan and Taal with it. I love it but it still has to develop a "personality" like his predecessors.

in true unsubcultured fashion... this blog entry is totally late...

RIP Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boys... who has made his intergalactic planetary journey to the other world.

The Beastie Boys were one of the early white rappers who PROBABLY inspired VANILLA ICE to do the same.

marvel + avengers + hollywood sub cult

Finally... the UNSUBCULTURED AVENGERS movie review!

The hype was all over in social media and word of mouth. This movie was [supposedly] awesome. My geeky officemates were even quoting lines from the film.

So finally, last night, foregoing biking around UP, I gave myself the chance to watch it. 3d pa!

So I bravely entered Trinoma Cinema, with drink and junkfood in tow [a movie is not a movie without junkfood].

After finishing of my munchies, I started to slouch/get comfy a bit more.

And this... my friends is how to waste your hard earned 300 hundred bucks.

Because I drifted to doze-land. I hope I didn't snore.

All I remember is waking up, catching a scene and then dozing off again.

Finally, I really woke up during the battle scene. But by then, I was in the half awake, wtf is happening stage.

That's how to enjoy a movie, unsubcultured style.

I'm waiting for the Avengers on HBO.

the anti-foodie place to eat...

Last Saturday, along V Luna in QC, I found my carinderia heaven.

Pagkaing pang-karinderya na all you can eat sa halagang 149 pesosesoses!

Medyo quantity over quality pero wala akong paki dun!

San ka pa?!

Biyaheng tiklop... UP to Camp Aguinaldo to Cubao X to New Manila to Kamuning back to Peyups

The pics below taken at Camp Aguinaldo best typified my sugod mentality. Bigger foldie means I have the confidence to take my rides further than just around UP and Ateneo. And now, it's a lot better going uphill. It's the bike. But it can also be me hehe.

It rained later in the afternoon... so i took shelter in a Persian style resto. Smart, right?

kilusang mayo uno + alternative + indie music sub cult

On labor day, unsubcultured old me tried to infiltrate the music loving hipster looking Noypi crowd by going to the first Manila Music Festival. It's organized by the same people who did Malasimbo so it must be cool.

As I said, I tried. So I parked my car at SM MOA and biked to the venue. Found out that tickets cost 2k. Forget it. Besides, I had a good view, as seen from the pics below. And my watch-the-concert buds? The security guards! Kooldibadibs?

Anyway, I just wanted to check out a Fil-am girl who sounds like Erykah Badu perform. Her name's June Marieezy and I caught a bit of her steadyness. Then after two songs, I got bored and biked around some more.

Cut to the day after. Told my friend that I watched the event from the outside. She told me she had tickets to give. Ahahaha,
but you see, it was labor day. And I had to watch the concert like a laborer, outside looking in.

"baking" + showbizness sub cult

My officemate "baked" for us and gave us some of his "goodies." Nope, I haven't eaten it yet for fear of what I might do [or not do] when alone in my room.

I think I should donate this instead to RAYMART SANTIAGO, CLAUDINE BARRETTO, THE TULFO BROTHERS, ANDI EIGENMANN'S FRIENDS, etc.

You guys need to chill.

folding bike sub cult

In the folding bike subculture, there exists a subculture of foldie riders called TSP or TIKLOP SOCIETY OF THE PHILIPPINES. I usually ride alone... but on one Thursday night in April, I joined their weekly Thursday night ride around UP. Actually, I joined the tail end of their ride and rode with them to dinner.

It's fun seeing a group of riders riding at night, specially if you're at the back. Why? Because of all those blinking lights. It was like Christmas in the middle of summer. And, it kind of makes you wish you took a mind altering substance so you could enjoy the lights more.

a few scenes my 5 eyes have seen during my weekend bike rides [sat: UP to Marikina Riverbanks to Ateneo to UP... sun: SM Moa to Aseana to CCP and back to MOA]...

... oh and my fifth eye? My cam's lens!

Highlights
  • nakayanan ko bumike ng paakyat mula marikina hanggang katipunan... normal lang yun sa mga bikers pero sa akin, astig na yun
  • biked to the manila music festival on sunday. found out 2k ang ticket... so nanonood/nakinig lang ako from the outside [i just waited for the set of june marieezy then i split]

Riverbanks hits...
Huwat? Someone's flying?
Yup... ziplines in the riverbanks...
He said,  "to give and not to count the cost." I say "so what's in it for me?!"
Fields of blue...
My only Sunday pic.
